Job summary
We are looking for a Manager of Software Development for a team building high reliability distributed data storage systems, pushing the envelope on operating no matter what the 'internet weather' is that day. The data we host powers the tools AWS teams need to operate their systems. We are at the leading edge of technology for fault tolerance and reliability.

As a Manager of Software Development, you will drive key engineering and business decisions that impact team's long-term vision. You will be responsible for hiring and leading a team of engineers. In this position you will partner with product managers, UX designers, and our internal customers.

A successful candidate will have strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills and enjoy working in a result driven fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities
The leader we are looking for will bring proven experience building, managing and mentoring engineering teams. In this role, you will:
  • Develop your people by ensuring the team has clear boundaries, priorities and support to be successful
  • Mentor your team, provide the right opportunities to challenge and develop them as engineers
  • Champion best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements and deliver high-quality work
  • Report on status of development, quality, operations and system performance to management

Note this role is "virtual" but requires somebody that is within +/- 1 hour of the core team's PST time zone. Ideally you can travel approximately once per month to Seattle, WA, for team activities, critical meetings, offsites, and awesome white-boarding sessions to work through hard problems.

  • Experience managing a team of software engineers including performance and career management of team members
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to a wide variety of audiences
  • Strong and creative problem solving abilities
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to take a project or significant feature from concept to launch

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $150,000-$175,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
