Project Overview:

SFI is responsible for providing full life cycle software development, Operation support and DevOps for a federal agency.

Census HQ is located in Suitland, MD. Although this is a remote position, picking up equipment and access badge in person is required.

US Citizenship is required for this position.

Position Summary:

As a Sr. AWS Cloud Data Analytics Engineer, you will support application development in the Census Bureau’s Enterprise Data Lake (EDL). Utilize cloud and Big Data technologies to support setup and management of the Centralized Decennial Address Control database in the EDL. Utilize Hive, Amazon Redshift, Postgres, or other EDL tools to extract, process, match, and analyze data as needed, to include 2020 Census Collection Event data, 2020 Census data, other pertinent Administrative Record data, and information on 2030 Census Research Prototype systems. Support provisioning of MAF/TIGER products in the EDL to lessen product duplication and provide a central location for access of products by multiple customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communication skills and ability to translate complex technical topics to senior stakeholders within the client organization and advise clients on leading cloud practices and data lake architectural approaches
  • Experience using AWS cloud platform and Big Data
  • Demonstrated skills with tools in AWS to build data analytics applications, as well as build and manage the lifecycle of collecting, storing, processing, and visualizing your data.

Strong experinece and demostrated skills in the following:

  • AWS RedShift to manage large scale data sets and database migrations
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS S3 and S3 advanced security
  • Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2)
  • AWS data load and retrieval
  • AWS database migration services
  • Accessing and managing data using Apache Hive
  • Linux and Shell Scripting
  • Python
  • Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest cloud and data lake trends, technology, etc.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or substitute 10 years of related experience
  • Six years of related technical experience, 10 years total experience required
  • AWS Certification(s) such as AWS Data Analytics desired but is not required
  • Ability to work and produce results in an agile and fast-paced environment with dynamic deadlines
  • Familiarity with basic cloud concepts (EC2/VM, service-based databases, Infrastructure as code, data lakes, Virtual Networking, etc.)

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of AWS data analytics services and how they integrate with each other.
  • Experience with AWS Lambda, API gateway and Cloudfront
  • AWS Elastic map Reduce (EMR) experience
  • AWS Glue, Athena, and QuickSight
  • Collecting streaming data with Kinesis Data Streams and Firehose
  • Experience or knowledge of DirectConnect, Snowball
  • Experience implementing Elasticsearch backed search microservices
  • HiveQL
  • JSON and XML
  • Oracle

  • In order to meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to pass a US Public Trust background investigation for access to the client site and computing systems. You must have lived in the US for the past three (3) years
