We develop hemorrhage control systems designed to increase the survivability of traumatic injury in situations where advanced medical support is not immediately available. THE POSITION: We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our integrated team of designers and engineers to pioneer the development of world changing products.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing and actively participating in all aspects of the engineering product development process from concept brainstorming through transfer to manufacturing. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, new product development, engineering verification and validation testing, data analysis, risk management, and design transfer to manufacturing. The ideal candidate should be motivated to work in an early-stage commercial setting geared toward product development and collaborating directly with end users.

As Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for:

Performing full life-cycle product development

  • Design & evaluate mechanical systems by researching and applying principles of mechanical design to implement product improvements and product modifications
  • Selection of components and materials for use in product designs
  • Development 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies along with creation of engineering drawings for product, components, tooling, etc.
  • Optimize product for manufacturability and facilitate the transfer of the design to manufacturing
  • Leverage 3D printing & additive manufacturing processes for prototyping and low-volume production

Device Testing

  • Identification and refinement of design inputs
  • Productverificationandvalidation
  • Develop usability and human factor test protocols, recruit participants, conduct usability testing, analyze test results, and write formative and summative usability test reports
  • Participate in writing verification protocols, testing, analysis, and interpretation of test data
  • Management and release of verification reports

Designing, management and implementation of product design processes

  • Create and maintain Design History File
  • Create, improve, and maintain Design Control and Quality Management System procedures in collaboration with Quality and Regulatory
  • Maintain and update manufacturing documents, assembly instructions
  • Perform root cause analysis, provide recommendations, write, implement corrective/preventive actions, verify effectiveness and train when necessary
  • Create product priority timeline and coordination with team members

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • 6+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling and rendering software (SolidWorks 3D CAD and SW PDM)
  • Outstanding communication and technical writing skills for working with global manufacturing, marketing, and development team. Must be comfortable interacting with customers/users
  • Demonstrated proficiency designing structural components and mechanisms
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools and Google Suite
  • Role is located in Baltimore, Maryland and restricted to U.S. citizens

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in new product development working through at least 3 complete concept-to-manufacturing development cycles and familiarity with plastic mold design, metal stamping, and part-assembly and core manufacturing practices
  • Strong experience with rapid fabrication, including FDM, SLA, SLS printing
  • Strong experience working in compliance with ISO13485 and FDA QSR
  • Awareness of GMP, GLP and regulatory standards (related to medical devices) in developmental and/or sustaining engineering projects including written protocols, test methods, assembly processes, risk analysis, the Design History File (DHF) and related records
  • Strong analytical skills and working experience with to device testing (including FEA)
  • Proficiency with project management software to create project plans, work breakdown structures and Gantt chart schedules
  • Familiarity with mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (MATLAB, Excel, Minitab, LabView, etc.)
  • Ability to operate small hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdrivers, hammer, wrenches, etc.), power tools, and test/inspection equipment
  • Willingness to work with fresh human & animal tissues
