Responsibilities:
The Payroll Manager will be a champion of Califia’s values, a partner to the business, and a valuable resource for Califia as a representative of the HR team. This position will lead and perform the routine functions of payroll with additional responsibilities in providing administration of the company’s benefits program, as well as HR programs and policies. The Payroll Manager will also support and maintain specialized and internal HR systems, services, and applications used throughout the organization. As a key cross-functional team member, this position will play a critical role in development and establishment of an integrated and robust HR function that supports a high-performing, engaged, and healthy work environment. This role ensures the highest level of accuracy, timeliness, and employee service in the management of day-to-day and strategic functions of payroll for the US and International countries. This position is based out of the Los Angeles office of Califia Farms.

Provide service to all Califia Farms team members by understanding and executing the organization’s mission and objectives and ensuring flawless administration of the payroll and benefits
Perform and manage all activities necessary to process multi-state payroll in accordance with the company’s pay schedule(s) including maintaining related records, processing deductions, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures
Provides full-cycle payroll processing in the US and Australia
Oversees payroll processing in the UK provided by our UK-based 3rd-party payroll vendor. Oversee payroll processing for Canada.
Ensure correct processing of special payroll items such as disability payments, relocation, auto allowances, and other expenses
Ensure compliance with Federal and State payroll tax regulations, respond and resolve all payroll tax issues, and ensure adequate tax registration and correct tax rates
Manage quarterly reconciliation of Wage and Tax Reports and calendar year-end processing of payroll, including supplemental payrolls, W-2 and other tax forms, and other government-required documentation
Ensure accurate entry in system for data integrity, and reconciliation of year-end requirements including 401K administration and audit participation
Maintain complete and compliant employee personnel records
Assure compliance with ERISA, 5500 filing, audits, and other benefit compliance regulations
Administers, ensures compliance and maintains records for the 401K retirement plan in the US and similar pension plans in the UK and Australia
Administers, ensures compliance and maintains records for the company’s benefits programs
Understands and analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in payroll
Continually monitors and maintains Company policies and procedures, stays abreast of legal issues relating to employment and employees
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

7+ Years of multi-state payroll and tax experience in a complex high growth organization
International payroll experience in the UK and Australia preferred
Knowledge of federal and state employment law including but not limited to FMLA, CFRA, ADA, ACA, EEO, FLSA, HIPAA, ERISA, etc.
Knowledge of Paycom and Time & Attendance including system implementation, system optimization, and reporting
Excellent interpersonal skills, as exemplified by the ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with peers, employees, and vendors; and to diplomatically resolve payroll, and office resource issues
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to analyze data
HR reporting and analytics
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Punctual, proactive, and able to take initiative, motivated self-starter
Proficiency in using a variety of computer software applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite
Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials; establishing priorities; and meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

Support of International teams (business units)
Use/knowledge of Paycom system
Payroll certification a plus
