 Software Engineer - Epic Mychart - Digital and Technology Partners REQ 2780812

 Roles & Responsibilities:

 We are looking for a strong software engineer with 3+ years of experience, preferably in healthcare or a related field. The primary area of focus will be the Mount Sinai patient and workforce digital application portfolio. You’ll help ensure solid application performance and an excellent user experience for both vendor supplied and in-house developed solutions.

 The ideal candidate will exhibit some or all of the following technical competencies:

  • Fluent in a back-end language such as Java, Ruby, or Python
  • Fluent in Javascript, React/Redux, Flutter, iOS or Android
  • Experience in Database systems: SQL/Postgres and NoSQL/Dynamo
  • Experience with Azure or other cloud hosting provider
  • Experience in web and security tech: APIs, DNS, Https, Logins, Okta, OAuth
  • Added knowledge in any of following a plus:
  • Epic and Epic MyChart
  • Google Analytics, GitHub, ChatBots, HL7, Azure
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, NIST, PCI, SOC, FERPA or other security standards.

Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                        

  1. Developing new backend features and functionality for enterprise level solutions
  2. Fixing bugs and performance problems
  3. Writing clean, readable, and testable code
  4. Cooperating with front-end developers, designers, and the rest of the team to deliver well-architected and high-quality solutions
  5. Demonstrates the ability to collect design and other pertinent information and develo
  6. Populate designated databases during the system build
  7. Establish standards around database build tasks to ensure consistency across implementations
  8. Prioritize and delegate tasks as needed 
  9. Thoroughly review and test each new release and communicate changes to before users are permitted to access the new release
  10. Demonstrate expert knowledge of the systems and provide guidance to other staff in analyzing issues and the development of potential solutions  
  11. Act as a point of escalation for complex multi system issues 
  12. Demonstrates professional behavior when interacting with clients and coworkers
  13. Demonstrate ability to understand not only tasks assigned but to anticipate ongoing work and take ownership of entire process.
  14. Demonstrate ability to organize work for other team members to achieve success
  15. Performs other related duties



Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.


  • Three years experience in Information Technology/Computer Science and/or clinical healthcare discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Three years experience in working on medium to large sized systems projects in a technology-driven environment
  • Experience working independently and demonstrated accountability for groups of tasks or processes
  • Extensive knowledge of at least one programming language like Java
  • Experience with third-party libraries and APIs
  • Superior analytical skills with a good problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to perform in a team environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and follow technical plans
  • Experience with the Epic software or other clinical systems
  • Familiarity with OOP design principles
