Hardware Engineer

Duties/Task/Essential Functions

Renkus-Heinz is seeking a full-time Hardware Engineer to join our Engineering team. This position requires an experienced analog and digital hardware engineer with outstanding technical skills both in mixed signals as well as moderate high-speed design experience. The Hardware Engineer must contribute to collaborative projects where what matters most is our success in bringing products to market quickly with exceptional quality and reliability. This will be a full-time position and work at home opportunities will be limited because of the demands of lab work and in-house production support.

  • Direct development of subsystem architectures – PCB design, testing, and implementation
  • Participation and development in schematic design and capture, PCB floor planning, part evaluation and sourcing
  • Circuit development including on-board switching power supply design, power regulation, Class-D audio circuit layout, AC circuits, networks, filters, high-speed circuits, and signals
  • Power and thermal design, optimization, development, and management
  • Design coordination across HW, Firmware, SW, Diagnostic and Mechanical engineering departments
  • CAD design of circuits and printed circuit board layouts, interfacing with the Mechanical Engineer to ensure proper fitment of system components and optimal heat transfer
  • Develop system and circuit characterization programs to qualify designs against specifications.
  • Perform board level debug and validation of new and existing designs
  • Assist in Safety and EM Certification of designs conforming to IEC, UL, and international standards
  • Performing or assisting with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of existing and new designs or system issues
  • Setting up test apparatus or devising test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models.
  • Design with manufacturing in mind from an electrical and mechanical perspective to improve manufacturing of products, assemblies, or components.
  • Analysis and evaluation of datasheets and component specifications for existing and new designs.

Basic Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Education Required

Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering, MSEE Preferred from an accredited university.

Work Experience:  
B.S. in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant work experience or a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Audio amplifier design, SMPS design, or other related audio experience a plus.

A curious, meticulous engineer that is always striving to improve a system’s performance is well suited for this position.


  • Strong analog circuit design with solid understanding of underlying theory and principals
  • Mixed signal systems design
  • Hands-On troubleshooting and debugging experience
  • Experience in low-noise, low leakage design
  • Knowledge of both safety and EMI certification international design standards
  • Transmission line theory and application
  • Thermal and mechanical fundamentals
  • PCB Layout experience – Altium experience a plus
  • Ability to lead other engineers from multiple disciplines and to help make trade-offs
  • Demonstrable skills in circuit simulation; 2.5 and 3-D modeling preferred
  • Lab experience including use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers a requirement
  • Ability to read and write English fluently
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Teams, and the ability to create clear documentation
  • Having a passion for audio with knowledge of audio system basics is a plus
  • Knowledge of soldering including reflow technics for IC’s and passive components a plus
  • Experience with Audio Precision or other similar audio test equipment a plus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year


  • 8 hour shift
