Job Purpose[1]

A Software Engineer is responsible for the creation of simulator support software to enhance the real-time simulation of industrial plants (including power plants).


The position requires the following minimum knowledge base:

  • Thorough knowledge of object-oriented software development (C++ or C#)
  • Understanding process modelling techniques for linear and non-linear systems.
  • Understanding the dynamic behavior of industrial processes, plant sub-systems and components
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Conceptual and innovative thinking skills.



- Analyze the available data for the system or sub-system to be simulated and request data as necessary.

- Specify the simulation requirements for subsystems in terms of: Process-, Control- or Electrical specifications and identify where customized software should to be used. This activity includes the specification of interfaces.

- Create Acceptance Test Procedures for the system or sub-system.

- Develop and integrate the software modules for the simulation. The software design and implementation shall be thoroughly documented.

- Test the software modules within a running simulator against the Acceptance Test Procedures.

- Create the relevant Instructor station interfaces.

- Integrate the system or sub-system simulation with other sub-systems


- Perform the Simulation Engineering tasks in accordance with the system engineering process to ensure a licensable and integrated simulator.

- Identify technical and development risks and discuss mitigation strategies with supervisors.

- Participate in plant subsystem design reviews.

Scope of Authority[4]

- Authorized to make technical decisions on subsystems of the Operator Training Simulator.

Reports To (Line Manager):

Senior Systems Engineer.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Review the documentation, generated by Junior Software Engineers.

- Confirm that the require testing had been done on subsystem modules done by Junior Engineers.

- Responsible for the acceptance of subsystems of the Operator Training Simulator.

Minimum Qualifications

Computer Engineering Degree.

Minimum Experience/Knowledge[5]

3 to 5 years of post-graduate experience in software development or software maintenance using object-oriented languages in the Power Plant or Petrochemical environments (C++/C#).

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
