Hippo Manager Software is seeking a Software Developer who is self-motivated and ready to take on a challenging role within our Development and Operations Department. This will be a full-time role reporting to the Director of DevOps.

Hippo Manager Software is a Veterinary Practice Information Management System (PIMS) provider empowering over 800 veterinary clinics around the world to thrive. We are building the next generation of our web-based PIMS and are searching for a developer to help us build strong team needed to accomplish this.

As a Software Developer at Hippo Manager, you will be working in the entire stack of our cloud-hosted web software to implement new functionality and enhance existing features. The types of projects that you might work on could include:

• Adding brand new functionality to Hippo Manager, such as in-app communication via email and SMS.
• Enhancing existing functionality, such as extending our multi-location support.
• Integrating Hippo Manager with a new third-party provider.
• Upgrading our technical stack to remain current and highly performant.

Our application stack is a GraphQL API backend built on Laravel connected to a MySQL database. The frontend application is built with Vue.js. You will be working regularly in PHP, Typescript, Javascript, HTML, and CSS. You should already be familiar with some of these technologies, including at least one of the following: Laravel, GraphQL, Vue.js, HTML5, Tailwind CSS. You should have an understanding of cloud-hosted software and should be comfortable with Git-based version control. We are looking for a developer who can hit the ground running, but understand that you may not know every technology we use. We are eager to teach and train developers who are eager to learn.

We work remotely, though we maintain an office in downtown Lexington, KY where you can to work, if you prefer. You should be comfortable managing your own time and be able to communicate effectively via writing. We primarily work and communicate via written word, whether discussing a pull request, commenting on a project proposal, creating documentation, or participating in team chat. We want you to do your best work here.

Requirements:

• Strong PHP experience ( >3 years); understanding of OOP, MVC; familiarity with Laravel
• Strong Javascript experience ( >3 years); familiarity with Vue.js
• Strong HTML/CSS experience ( >3 years);
• Strong SQL experience ( >3 years);
• Comfortable with Linux-based OS’s; LAMP stack
• Comfortable with unit testing
• Comfortable with Git-based version control
• Ability to write documented, reusable code

Preferred Experience:

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• Experience with Laravel
• Experience with Vue.js
• Experience with Tailwind CSS and Tailwind UI
• Experience with Amazon AWS
• Experience with Pest (PHP testing) and Cypress (Javascript testing)
• Experience with Git-flow
• Experience with Web Application Design
• Experience with Shape Up development process
• Experience with reporting software such as Jasper, Crystal Reports, etc.

Responsibilities:

• Code, test, debug, implement and document company developed programs
• Maintain communication and flexibility during the entire software development lifecycle
• Perform data analysis to support internal and external project needs
• Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed
• Continuously develop skills and expertise in appropriate software/programming languages
• Assist with escalated customer issues alongside our Support staff

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
