The Million Veteran Program is a Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Office of Research & Development (ORD) supported national program with VA Palo Alto Health Care System.

The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is an Office of Research and Development (ORD) funded program that establishes a national longitudinal cohort of Veterans for genetic and observational research. The Palo Alto MVP Chair Office is one of three Chair Offices that have distinct responsibilities for the overall conduct and execution of MVP. The Palo Alto Chair Office is responsible for Data Generation and Utilization and is also the Human Subjects Protection Regulatory Core for the National Program. Chair Office staff are expected to work closely with MVP Program Office Leadership in ORD, MVP recruitment sites (approximately 60), MVP Coordinating Centers (10) and Researchers approved to utilize MVP data.

The Palo Alto MVP Chair Office at VA Palo Alto is seeking a full-time Senior Program Manager (Health Science Specialist).

Key Duties:

  • Serve on several assigned research projects within each MVP Domain, working directly with assigned research staff, providing research project leadership within each Domain and serve as advisor to their responsible Domain teams, provide valuable consultative services, as well as assisting in the planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of milestones for each research plan.
  • Lead project strategy, project management, technology approach, implementation methodology, quality control, and support for the various Domains of MVP.
  • Build and develop the research team to ensure maximum performance by providing purpose, direction and motivation.
  • Manage the time management of the project lifecycle by estimating the duration of each project activity, develop a realistic schedule to hit milestones and deadlines and will maintain the proposed schedule throughout.
  • Analyze project progress, and take corrective measures by adapting scope, timelines, and resources to ensure project team adheres to project requirements.
  • Help to identify risks with ongoing or proposed development projects to ensure MVP Domains and program goals and objectives are met and to provide mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate the identified risks.
  • Work in collaboration with the service's contracting officer's representative (COR) and staff for requested research services and research supplies that are contracted through approved vendors.
  • Survey the various Domains to understand what services and/or supplies are needed to carry out research efforts for an efficient workflow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


· Must have experience with program management within a heath research program.

· BS or higher degree in a public health or scientific research-related field.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a large and diverse team.

· Strong attention to details and have good organizational skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (e.g. Excel, Word) required
